Any Suggestions? Planning my First Trip to Israel!

As my first trip to Israel edges closer, I have been thinking more and more about what I want to see and accomplish. I’m striking for a balance of the historical and modern, religious and secular, educational and fun.

I started to make a mental list of must-see sights in each major city: namely Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.

I’m especially excited about Jerusalem – I have heard one month wouldn’t be enough for Jerusalem.  The Holy City has some main draws like City of David and Dome of the Rock; at the same time – lots of tourist traps like people trying to sell you useless crap.  Also downloaded a few apps to assist me in my planning. This should be one great learning and fun adventure.  I have already secured my stay in Tel Aviv through Airbnb.  I’m staying with a kind and young couple in the happening part of town. They have already demonstrated to me their hospitality by offering me a small discount for me to stay with them.  They’ve never had a guest from Hong Kong!! I may be the rare “Asian” person in Israel.  One that has not made aliyah…yet. 🙂

Tel Aviv should be where I can get my fix of the modern and fun.  Haifa would be historical and educational.

Below is what I’m thinking given my week in Israel.  Obviously, I can’t see and do everything. I have to save time for another trip in the future!! Have you been to Israel? Any other sights that you would recommend?

  1. You shouldn’t skip yad vashem in Jerusalem. Easily reached by light rail.

Have a good trip. Truly. Btw, our son and Chinese daughter-in-law were in Israel with us in 2007.
